Everybody loves a man in a suit, but does every man love wearing a suit? Don’t get us wrong, suits are dapper and classic and polished, perfect for weddings, job interviews, and various other milestones, but they’re not always necessary to achieving that sophisticated look. Here are three of our favourite ways to look smart without a suit.
Shawl neck cardigan + tie + chinos
Shawl neck cardigans are winter’s alternative to blazer’s and suit jackets. The fact that they have a collar makes them instantly dressier and sharper.
Pair a grey shawl neck cardigan with a white shirt, red tie, and slim fit beige chinos. Complete the look with chestnut brogues and a leather briefcase and you’ll look the part for any job interview or business meeting.

Blazer + chinos + patterned shirt
Opt for a navy blazer- it’s a wardrobe staple that will go with just about anything and can be styled all year round. Choose a mini-geo patterned shirt that is sharp yet modern and fasten the top button. You can add a quirky bow tie for more formal occasions or simply remove the blazer if you find yourself at a less formal bar. Complete the look with leather desert boots and taupe chinos.

Windowpane check pants + brogues + roll neck
Channelling a Sean Connery-inspired style, this look is for the classic gentleman who isn’t afraid to experiment with bolder garments.
Windowpane check is the pattern of the season but should be worn sparingly and toned down with block colour items. Look for tailored windowpane check trousers with a single crease down the front. Opt for a darker colour, such as navy, and pair with block colour roll neck jumper to pare back the look.
If you want a sharp finish to the look, go for chestnut brogues, while leather hiking boots are great for those looking for something more bold and quirky.
