H’s wardrobe staple: Brogues

H’s wardrobe staple: Brogues

An inarguable fashion icon, the brogue is everything a man needs in his life- timeless, sturdy, long wearing and effortless. Here’s a few of our favourite style combinations that will bring your brogues to life.

What should you be looking for?

  • Just a friendly reminder that you should ONLY EVER buy leather shoes (unless you’re shopping for Kmart thongs) so don’t even think about brogues with a synthetic upper.
  • The traditional brogue features serrated and perforated seams and edges and the patterned toe cap.
  • The almond toe is everything- it means you can wear your brogues on every occasion from work to weekends.

Summer stylin’

Chilled weekends, 8pm sunsets and an esky full of ice that melts in 0.5 seconds- aaaah summer.

The sunny season is the perfect chance to get creative with your brogues. We suggest opting for lighter colours like taupe and tan. You can go for a nubuck or suede finish, with some more casual styles featuring a white rubber sole for a sports-luxe inspired look.

When it comes to work, brogues with a burnished chestnut finish are the perfect addition to a blue suit, or a crisp white shirt and beige chino combination.

Spring is in the air

Mid-season styling is like coming out of hibernation- it’s time to shed the layers, pack away your coat and swap grey for floral.

Think preppy when it comes to styling your brogues through spring- white chinos which a navy blazer, an orange pocket square and tan brogues- perfection.

For something a little less James Bond, your brogues will easily dress up salmon chino shorts and a light-blue blazer, taking you from coffee to lunch with ease.

Winter wonderland

Sometimes there isn’t enough coffee in the world to get you out of bed during winter. When you do eventually manage to pull back your doona and face the day, be sure to slip into dark brown brogues and a charcoal suit, finished with a maroon tie. These moody colours most likely match how you feel about going to work.

If you’re feeling a little less dark, think tonally. Charcoal pants with a deep navy blazer, a light blue shirt, and blue pocket square will all come together with the addition of coffee coloured brogues, and a coffee in hand.
